It's a B-Day Kinda Day

Happy birthday, GRAND #3. You may not be excited about it (yet), but the rest of us are.

Do you remember tops, a toy with a string that balances like a gyroscope? Well, the guys on this video certainly do. Check out their mad skillz. Yup, that's skillz with a z.

Yesterday, we saw some photos from when we first arrived in NYC. Today, we made it to our hotel in Times Square. Here is the lobby.

And this was our first room before our son got us upgraded for our anniversary.

And it had this lovely view. Yes, you can see my reflection in the shot. Sorry.

Here is the new room up on the 22nd floor.

And our new, improved view.

Does this look good to you? It does to me, and it is made using canned (is that the right word for those pop-open cylinders?) biscuit dough. Read the recipe here.

Maybe you are not into sweets. That is wise. So, here are some slow-cooker recipes. I hope at least one of them tickles your taste buds.

Have you ever heard of the musical Sweeney Todd, about a barber who cuts peoples throats? It was made into a movie starring Johnny Depp in 2007. Anyway, it is in the news again because two boys acting in it in Australia actually had their throats cut during a production. Even though it was covered in duct tape, why would anyone allow teenagers to use real straight razors?

Check out this proposed chart relating the calories you eat to how long it would take to exercise them away. Do you think it would be more effective at helping address the obesity problem of the US? Two slices of pizza would take almost 1-1/2 hours to walk off the calories. Whew.

Did you watch the finale of American Idol last night? I did not. I used to watch some of the early episodes each season when they had the 'bad' singers highlighted. Remember William Hung? I also watched the second season finale when Studdard beat out Aiken. Anyway, here is a chart showing the ratings season by season. It certainly used to dominate every other program that went up against it. Will you miss it? I will not.

Maybe the ratings would have improved if they had a color commentator?

Speaking of people with voices that sound interesting, do you remember the homeless man in Ohio that got famous for having a 'golden voice of radio'? What happened to him? Here is a recent update.

"I hear the train a-comin'. It's comin' round the bend. And I ain't seen the sunshine since, I don't know when." OK, actually, I saw the sunshine yesterday, but it is reaching dawn outside now. That means we made it to Friday and the workweek is almost over. Just a few more hours. We can do it, people. Have a great weekend.
