Molds, Drones and Boldly Going Where No Man Has Gone Before

I am not saying that I remember when people made molded dishes (you know, using unflavored gelatin). Then again, I am not saying that I don't. This morning, I came across a recipe for a molded dish that sounds, well, not very tasty. It is Hearty Corned Beef Salad. You bet. It has canned corned beef, gelatin, celery, green pepper, onion, hard-boiled eggs, mayo, horseradish. I bet you are salivating by now.

It seems that so many people prefer Star Trek: The Next Generation over Star Trek (the Original Series). Do you have a preference? I guess I would fall in the ST:TOS camp just because of Mr. Spock. Still, Data was pretty fun. Remembering these shows came to mind because I see that someone is releasing a communicator like ST:TNG. It will sell for $80. You can read how to get your own here. I don't know if the CHIRP! is included.

While you have on your communicator, you could play a new Star Trek-themed board game. Star Trek Panic is a low-strategy, high-stress game where you just try to stay alive. I guess it might be fun for a couple of times, but I don't think I will buy it. I'm just sharing info, people.

I was at the drone park this weekend, which I will tell you about in a moment. First, a tale as old as time. Well, a tale a couple of days old. One of the men at the park came up and said he was thinking about me over the past week. We don't even know each other's names, so I was more than a little surprised. He said that I had mentioned that my drone did not need to be registered. He felt that the weight limit for registration was mush lighter than mine and I should do more investigation. Apparently, recently, the police had come through the park asking to see people's registration forms. So, before I flew, I whipped out the old smartphone and looked at the Fed's site. Oops, he was right. So, I went ahead and registered immediately.

My goal for flying the drone this weekend was to try some features I had not attempted before. There were three choices. I could try Follow Me, where the drone follows the controller so you can walk or ride (up to 20mph or something) and it will follow you. I tried and it failed. It said my GPS signal was too weak. I wonder if that is because I use an iPhone? Then, I tried Waypoints, where you fly your drone around and set several points for the drone to pivot or pause or turn. I was able to get that to work, but I learned that if you do not set the orientation correctly, the drone will not be facing the direction you wanted, so the video may not reflect the path it followed. I also learned that, while you are in Waypoint mode, you cannot change the flight pattern of the drone. Good to know. Finally, the one I have been most anxious to learn was Point of Interest. In this flight more, the drone will circle some point that you choose. and the camera remains focused on the center of the circle. That worked just right, and you can vary the speed as it performs the maneuver. I have videos from Waypoints and Point of Interest, but they are too large for my blog, and I didn't figure out how to get them to Youtube yet. I will soon, although they won't look like much to you.

On the web, I did find a couple of cool shots from drones. Here is one of fishermen in Malaysia. The net spread beneath the boat is cool.

And I liked this one of fall colors in The Netherlands. You can imagine that I am anxious to try that this Fall.

My drone has four propellers. If you are under it, you can feel that it is moving a lot of air. How much? Well, look at this cabin from Ironton ghost town in Colorado. I like to find places like this and then research them a bit to see what they were like back in the day.

OK, now check this photo. I'm not saying my drone did it and I am not saying it didn't.

Wait. There's one more to share. Again, I can neither confirm nor deny that my drone was involved.

I watched some NFL this weekend on the first full weekend of the NFL season. My teams did not fare well. Right now, though, I will say farewell. Time is up. Monday is starting. No, I decided to share today's Stupidest Things Ever Said calendar entry.

OK, now I am really ending today's post. Have a Marvelous Monday.
